Abstract
Occupational safety and health (K3) is an important aspect in protecting workers from potential dangers, including through the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Welding workshop workers are at high risk from exposure to heat, sparks, ultraviolet rays, and harmful gases. This study aims to find out the factors that affect the use of PPE in welding workshop workers on Jalan Jendral. The study used a quantitative method with a cross sectional design on 30 respondents selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected with observation sheets and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most of the respondents were young, highly educated, and had incomes above the UMR. As many as 90% do not use PPE completely. The analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between age and education and PPE use. However, there was a significant relationship between income and PPE use (p=0.033). Workers with incomes below the UMR tend to use complete PPE less. This study concludes that economic factors play an important role in compliance with the use of PPE, so it is necessary to provide affordable PPE as well as improve education and supervision of K3. It is hoped that the results of this study can serve as a reference for educational institutions, increase the awareness of welding workshop workers in using personal protective equipment PPE, and serve as a basis for further research related to occupational safety and health (OSH).
