Abstract

Jumlah responden 1 orang.

Phlebitis infection is an infection that occurs in patients when they are in hospital or at other health facilities. Phlebitis is a complication of intravenous (IV) line placement and a type of nosocomial infection that often occurs in hospitals. Phlebitis occurs due to acute inflammation of the internal lining of the vein which is characterized by pain and soreness along the vein, redness, swelling and warmth, and can be felt around the puncture area. A nursing problem that often arises in phlebitis patients is the risk of infection. Handling the risk of infection can be done non-pharmacologically by giving aloevera compresses. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of the results of professional practice by applying aloe vera compresses to prevent the risk of infection in elderly patients in the Dahlia room at Arifin Ahmad Hospital, Riau Province. The number of respondents was 1 person. The application of the aloevera compress is carried out for 20 minutes, 3 hours once a day, a maximum of 8 hours every day, this activity is carried out for 3 days. The measuring instrument used is the Visual Infusion Phlebitis (VIP) Scale Grade 0 (not a sign of phlebitis), grade 1 (possible initial sign is seen in one of the signs), grade 2 (early stage of phlebitis), grade 3 (moderate stage of phlebitis where all visible signs), grade 4 (advanced stage of phlebitis or early stage of thrombophlebitis) and 5 advanced stage of thrombophlebitis). Based on this, the application of aloevera compresses is able to prevent the risk of infection which is characterized by a decrease in the degree of phlebitis in elderly patients.
