Abstract
Cesarean section is a surgical delivery procedure that may cause acute pain due to the disruption of tissue continuity in the abdominal wall and uterus. Post–cesarean section pain can inhibit maternal mobility, delay the recovery process, and increase the risk of complications. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be performed by nurses to reduce pain is early mobilization. Early mobilization has been proven to improve blood circulation, prevent muscle stiffness, accelerate wound healing, and reduce pain intensity. The purpose of this Final Nursing Scientific Project was to describe nursing care for post–cesarean section patients experiencing acute pain through the implementation of early mobilization in the Teratai Ward of Arifin Achmad Regional Hospital, Riau Province. The method used was Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBNP) with a case study design involving two post–cesarean section patients who experienced acute pain. Early mobilization was implemented over three days of hospitalization (July 18–20, 2025), starting at the first 6 hours post–cesarean section, at 24 hours, and more than 24 hours after surgery. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The results showed a decrease in pain intensity in both patients. In the first patient, the pain score decreased from 7 to 3, while in the second patient it decreased from 6 to 3 after the gradual implementation of early mobilization. In addition to reduced pain intensity, patients also demonstrated decreased grimacing behavior, protective postures, and anxiety, as well as improved independent mobility. In conclusion, the implementation of early mobilization is effective in reducing acute pain in post–cesarean section patients. Early mobilization can be applied as an evidence-based independent nursing intervention to enhance patient comfort, accelerate recovery, and improve the quality of maternal nursing care.
