Abstract

Fractures are the cause of increasing morbidity and mortality rates in every health service. During the surgical process, the patient will feel pain due to the surgical incision that has been made. One non-pharmacological pain management that can reduce pain is leg elevation of 15° of the lower extremities. The aim of applying 15° leg elevation is to see the effect of 15° lower extremity elevation on pain in patients after lower extremity fracture surgery. The application of 15° elevation of the lower extremities is carried out by elevating the lower extremities as high as 15° with a section that supports the legs. This procedure was given for 30 minutes 1 time a day for 3 days to 1 patient. Before and after the procedure, the patient's pain scale is measured using the NRS (numerical rating scale). The results of this implementation showed a reduction in the pain scale, from an initial pain scale of 7 (severe pain) and after intervention the pain scale on the third day became 2 (mild pain). It is hoped that the results of applying 15° lower extremity leg elevation can become an evidence-based nursing action to reduce pain in patients after lower extremity fracture surgery while providing nursing care in the Edelwis room at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province.
