Abstract
Postoperative pain is a serious health problem that affects around 35-65% of surgical patients. If uncontrolled, this pain can cause complications such as bleeding, infection, respiratory disorders and reduce the patient's quality of life. Therefore, effective pain management is very important to minimize risks and improve patient comfort. The purpose of this study was to explain the application of guided imagery techniques in postoperative patients using Virtual Reality media to reduce pain in the COT (central operation theater) room of Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. The implementation method used was an experimental technique on postoperative patients with acute pain nursing problems. The researcher carried out the implementation on February 1, 2025. The implementation was carried out for 1 day on one managed patient for 10 minutes. The results of this study after the application of guided imagery techniques through virtual reality showed that after being given there was a significant difference in the success of pain intensity before and after being given virtual reality with the results of nursing evaluations from patients showing outcome criteria in accordance with the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI) book, namely decreased pain levels marked by decreased pain complaints, decreased grimacing, decreased protective attitudes, decreased anxiety, decreased self-focus, decreased respiratory rate, decreased pulse rate, and decreased blood pressure. This study recommends that nurses improve the quality of life of postoperative patients by applying guided imagery techniques through virtual reality media in reducing postoperative pain intensity.
